Pier Mauá presents a positive balance of the 2023/2024 season

CLIA Brasil (Brazilian Maritime Cruise Association), responsible for regulating, promoting and expanding maritime activity in Brazil, and several representatives of bodies that work in this segment, held this Tuesday (21), at Pier Mauá, a meeting that served to present a general overview of the last 2023/2024 cruise season, and align the details for the next navigation period, which begins in November this year.

Cruises bring extremely positive impacts on the cities that receive the ships, boosting the local economy and creating several jobs. This drives not only tourism, but also many other sectors and services such as transport, food, crafts, etc.

According to Clia, intention to cruise remains strong among cruisers and potential new cruisers where 12% of cruise travelers take cruises twice a year and 10% of cruise travelers take three to five cruises a year. Global cruise capacity is expected to grow at least 10% from 2024 to 2028. Other notable points are: that the future of cruising is the younger generation – on average 46 years old; the increase in the number of solo travelers – around 13% of cruise travelers departing from North American ports are traveling alone. And another relevant fact is the growth of cruise travelers traveling with three to five generations, on average 28%. Another interesting fact is the number of passengers sailing on expedition routes, which increased by 71% from 2019 (before the pandemic) to 2023.
